Another Memorable Fall Fest

For the past seven years, Camp Good Days has hosted a special weekend program in October called Fall Fest, giving our campers the chance to reconnect with friends beyond the summer months. This time of year, marked by the spirit of Halloween, brings an undeniable magic to the campgrounds. From pumpkin tosses to haunted houses, our campers dive into the festivities, making memories and sharing laughs with friends who understand what they're going through.
As I look back on the weekend, I find myself incredibly grateful for the quiet beauty of fall at our camp property. The lake sits perfectly still, mirroring the vibrant colors of autumn, while the crisp air wraps the campgrounds in a gentle calm. As I take it all in, I'm reminded of how lucky we are to share this place with kids with such resilience and strength. Even as we come together for lighthearted fun, the difficult journeys our campers face aren't far from my mind. Conversations with them reveal challenges no child should have to bear, yet they meet each one with courage that leaves me in awe.
I've had the honor of working alongside presidents, governors, and many remarkable individuals over the years, but none inspire me quite like the campers of Camp Good Days. This weekend, once again, was a reminder of their remarkable spirit. Despite all they've been through, they carry no bitterness, no weight of anger. They embrace life, find joy in small moments, and face their battles without a chip on their shoulder. They show us how to live with gratitude and grace, a lesson many of us could benefit from.
As I get older, I'm not as hands-on as I once was, but every conversation I have with these kids fills me with energy and inspiration. They remind all of us— volunteers, staff, and supporters alike—not to take life's precious moments for granted. They've taught me that life is meant to be cherished, even during the most challenging days, and that the bonds we build and the time we spend together truly matter.
As we head into the holiday season, I invite everyone to reflect on what's most important in life. We often overlook family, good friends, and a safe place to call home when busy with everyday life. Take the time to appreciate these blessings. Because, as our campers have shown me, if we only play when the sun shines, we miss out on the strength and joy that come from weathering life's storms together.
This journey, these friendships, and the moments we share at Camp Good Days—they're what keep me going, and I couldn't be more grateful.
