Celebrating Summer and Honoring the Legacy of Russ Romano

I hope everyone had a great 4th of July and enjoyed a long weekend with family and friends. This summer, Camp Good Days has been filled with activity, as our summer programs are in full swing, with kids and volunteers creating lasting memories. We're excited about our upcoming Project T.I.P.S. events, and I invite you to visit our website for more information on our programs and events.
This year, for the 4th of July, Wendy and I decided to stay at home with our dog, Elanor, and soak in the beautiful weather. It was a peaceful and enjoyable weekend until Sunday when I was reading the Democrat and Chronicle on my porch and learned of the unexpected passing of my long-time friend, Russ Romano.
Russ and I were both products of the Rochester City School District. He was a remarkable student-athlete, particularly in football, which earned him a scholarship to the University of Rhode Island. He later played professionally for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in the Canadian Football League until a career-ending injury forced him to pursue another career path. He used his remarkable gift for communication and his ability to connect with people naturally to build a successful career in real estate.
When Camp Good Days began, Russ continuously introduced people to our cause through his extensive network in the real estate industry. His efforts raised crucial funds, helping us to provide our programs and services free of charge to all participants. To this day, those he introduced to Camp are still supporters, a lasting testament to Russ's dedication and generosity.
Russ's contributions didn't stop there. Children with cancer often miss out on the joys of playing sports, which is why the Courage Bowl came to be. I wanted these children to experience the thrill of football, and Russ was one of the first people I called to share my idea with. I didn't have to ask twice; he was eager to help and played a crucial role in establishing the Courage Bowl. This annual event continues to bring joy and excitement to countless children and families, and it stands as a tribute to Russ's commitment to our cause.
Even though I hadn't seen Russ in a while, the news of his unexpected death reminded me of his significant involvement in Camp Good Days and how much he helped make it what it is today. I'm sure that everyone who was a part of his life, whether as an acquaintance or a friend, will feel the loss deeply.
As we continue our summer programs, we do so with a heavy heart but also with immense gratitude for the incredible people like Russ who have been part of our journey. His legacy of kindness, service, and dedication to the community inspires us in all that we do.
